Multi-Unit Franchisee Insight - Career Turning Point & Hardest Lesson

We talk to successful multi-unit operators regularly here at Franchise Update Media. These busy on-the-go people share great insight and wisdom with us through our profile stories in Multi-Unit Franchisee magazine. Here, from our archives, are some insightful responses from some of these franchisees.

What was a major turning point in your career/best business decision you've made?
Working with other franchisees on a large project. It was really an eye-opener because I was able to see areas where we could be better and learn from those owners.
Starting the second location and pushing my team and myself way beyond our comfort zone. It hasn't always been fun, but it's paid off tremendously.

What is the hardest lesson you've learned?
In life you don't get what you want, you get what you deserve. It took me a few years to understand how hard you actually have to work if you want to accomplish something extraordinary. I'm still learning this lesson.
Tommy Hoopsick, multi-unit franchisee of Ductz

What was a major turning point in your career/best business decision you've made?
Being a multi-concept operator, it can sometimes be a balancing act to make sure your current businesses are operating successfully, but still have room for growth. The biggest turning point for me was realizing how much support I had to expand. From the moment I decided to franchise with Captain D's, I was introduced to corporate members who did anything and everything they could to help me succeed. From the construction phase to opening day and beyond, all of that guidance helps push my businesses forward. Deciding to fully invest in franchising. It's had challenges, but it's rewarding.

What is the hardest lesson you've learned?
You have to have patience.
Ali Momin, multi-unit franchisee of Captain D's, Dairy Queen, and Edible Arrangements
